Winner- My choice to win.
Snatcher- The one that will most probably snatch the win.
Deserve-r- It deserves the nod but won't win.
Unlikely- Shouldn't win or get nominated.
Now, let's start! Best Movie- Drama. The nominees are:
1. Avatar (Snatcher)
2. The Hurt Locker (Deserve-r)
3. Inglorious Basterds (Snatcher)
4. Precious: Based on the Novel PUSH by Sapphire (Unlikely) (Should have been: Invictus)
5. Up In The Air (Winner)
Up In The Air is really cool and it's time a movie like that win Best Drama. But if Up In The Air don't win, I pray or most likely it will go to Avatar or Inglorious Basterds. The Hurt Locker won't win but it deserves to be nominated. However, Precious: Based on the Novel PUSH by Sapphire isn't in the top 5 Best Dramas of the year. Invictus, State Of Play, Public Enemies or District 9 should have gotten a nod, especially Invictus. But there always have to be a miss.
Best Movie- Comedy or Musical
1. 500 Days Of Summer (Winner)
2. The Hangover (Unlikely) (Should have been: Zombieland)
3. It's Complicated (Unlikely) (Should have been: The Informant!)
4. Julie & Julia (Snatcher)
5. Nine (Unlikely) (Should have been: Up or Fantastic Mr. Fox)
This will be a close fight between 500 Days Of Summer and Julie & Julia because old critics would like Julie & Julia while the younger generation will go for 500 Days Of Summer. However, The Hangover, It's Complicated and Nine shouldn't get nominated. It's Complicated has a bad and complicated plot, Nine is kinda boring while if The Hangover got a nod, why didn't Tropic Thunder get a nod? So, to be fair, these 3 movies shouldn't get nominated. Plus, I thought 2009 is the year where all the animated films take over. So, where's Up? Up is only nominated in Best Animated Feature. Also missing are Fantastic Mr. Fox, Zombieland, The Informant!, Bruno and I Love You Man.
Best Actor- Drama
1. Jeff Bridges for Crazy Heart (Deserve-r)
2. George Clooney for Up In The Air (Snatcher)
3. Colin Firth for A Single Man (Deserve-r)
4. Morgan Freeman for Invictus (Winner)
5. Tobey Maguire for Brothers (Deserve-r)
Everyone in this category deserved the nod they received but if you're looking for the winner, look to Morgan Freeman who played Nelson Mandela. But don't be shocked if George Clooney pulls off a win because he did a good job himself. Tobey, Jeff and Colin wouldn't be replaced if I chose the nods although I did not watch Crazy Heart and A Single Man.
Best Actress- Drama
1. Emily Blunt for The Young Victoria (Winner)
2. Sandra Bullock for The Blind Side (Snatcher)
3. Helen Mirren for The Last Station (Snatcher)
4. Carey Mulligan for An Education (Deserve-r)
5. Gabourey Sidibe for Precious: Based on the Novel PUSH by Sapphire (Unlikely) (Melanie Laurent for Inglorious Basterds)
Emily should end up as winner but Sandra Bullock is the most likely to pull off a surprise win. Helen is also famous for taking favorite's awards. Carey is the dark horse while Melanie Laurent should have gotten a nod for Inglorious Basterds.
Best Actor- Comedy or Musical
1. Matt Damon for The Informant! (Winner)
2. Daniel-Day Lewis for Nine (Deserve-r)
3. Robert Downey Jr. for Sherlock Holmes (Snatcher)
4. Joseph Gordon-Levitt for 500 Days Of Summer (Snatcher)
5. Michael Stuhlberg for A Serious Man (Deserve-r)
Another satisfying category. Matt should win this because he has been nominated for an acting award before and this time he has the chance to win it. Robert's nomination gave me the same reaction when Johny Depp got a nod for Captain Jack Sparrow so I wish him the best to steal it away while when no one is looking, Joseph might pop as the surprise winner because of his performance in 500 Days Of Summer. I have nothing much to say about Daniel-Day and Michael. If I want to complain, I would like Woody Harrelson for Zombieland or Sacha Baron Cohen for Bruno.
Best Actress- Comedy or Musical
1. Sandra Bullock for The Proposal (Unlikely) (Should have been: Zooey Deschanel for 500 Days Of Summer)
2. Marion Cotillard for Nine (Deserve-r)
3. Julia Roberts for Duplicity (Winner)
4. Meryl Streep for It's Complicated (Unlikely) (Should have been: Emma Stone for Zombieland)
5. Meryl Streep for Julie & Julia (Snatcher)
Julia and Meryl will take this category because the rest aren't serious contenders. Of the other 3, I would only keep Marion Cotillard. Zooey Deschanel and Emma Stone for 500 Days Of Summer and Zombieland respectively should have gotten nominations.
Still to go:
1. Best Animated Feature
2. Best Supporting Actor
3. Best Director
4. Best Supporting Actress
5. Best Screenplay
(... to be continued)
