Black Swan (Snatcher)
2. The Fighter (Snatcher)
3. Inception (Snatcher)
4. The King's Speech (Snatcher but not to me) (Should be:127 Hours, True Grit or The Town)
5. The Social Network (Winner)

All 5 movies are strong so I don't care what the others say about 127 Hours, Rabbit Hole, Blue Valentine, True Grit and The Town. But if I want to like all 5 movies in this category a 100%, I would replace The King's Speech (I know it's a big Oscar contender) with 127 Hours, True Grit or The Town.

Best Picture (Comedy or Musical)
1. Alice In Wonderland (Deserved compared to the other movies but does not deserve a nomination)
2. Burlesque (Undeserving)
3. The Kids Are All Right (The clear winner, if the winner is anyone but this movie, the Golden Globes can f*** themselves)
4. Red (Same as Alice In Wonderland but slightly better)
5. The Tourist (WTF?! Laughable dialogue??? F*** No)

The Kids Are All Right will definitely win this by a mile. I can only tolerate with Red and Alice In Wonderland but Burlesque and The Tourist? F***!!! Where's Kick-Ass, Date Night, The Other Guys, Easy A, Get Him To The Greek and Scott Pilgrim v.s. The World? Get rid of Burlesque and The Tourist and put in Get Him To The Greek and Easy A. If possible, Alice In Wonderland and Red can make way for The Other Guys and Scott Pilgrim v.s. The World. Here's how it should have been.

1. Get Him To The Greek
2. Scott Pilgrim v.s. The World
3. Easy A
4. The Kids Are All Right
5. The Other Guys

It wasn't a great year for comedies but the nominations chosen are unacceptable.

Best Leading Actor (Drama)
1. Jesse Eisenberg- The Social Network (Snatcher)
2. Colin Firth- The King's Speech (Winner)
3. James Franco- 127 Hours (Snatcher)
4. Ryan Gosling- Blue Valentine (??? I didn't watch this)
5. Mark Wahlberg- The Fighter (Deserved)

I have no idea about Ryan Gosling's performance in the movie but I would give it to Leonardo DiCaprio for Inception or Jeff Bridges for True Grit but I can't give my thoughts because I have no clue about Ryan Gosling.

Best Leading Actor (Comedy or Musical)
1. Johnny Depp- The Tourist (No! No! No!)
2. Johnny Depp- Alice In Wonderland (Snatcher)
3. Paul Giamatti- Barney's Version (Winner)
4. Jake Gyllenhaal- Love And Other Drugs (???)
5. Kevin Spacey- Casino Jack (???)

No Johnny Depp, get Russell Brand for The Other Guys. If I wanted to add a few more, it would be Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg for The Other Guys, Jim Carrey for I Love You, Phillip Morris and Michael Cera for Scott Pilgrim v.s. The World.

Best Leading Actress (Drama)
1. Halle Berry- Frankie And Alice (???)
2. Nicole Kidman- Rabbit Hole (Snatcher)
3. Jennifer Lawrence- Winter's Bone (???)
4. Natalie Portman- Black Swan (Winner)
5. Michelle Williams- Blue Valentine (???)

I think Rooney Mara (The Social Network) or Ellen Page (Inception) should get a nomination for 2 of 3 ??? above.

Best Leading Actress (Comedy or Musical)
1. Annette Benning- The Kids Are All Right (Winner)
2. Anne Hathaway- Love And Other Drugs (???)
3. Angelina Jolie- The Tourist (Out)
4. Julianne Moore- The Kids Are All Right (Snatcher)
5. Emma Stone- Easy A (Deserved)

This category is for Annette and Julianne because those two actresses have the best performances here. Angelina Jolie out, Tina Fey for Date Night in.

Best Director
1. Darren Aronofsky- Black Swan (Snatcher)
2. David Fincher- The Social Network (Winner)
3. Tom Hooper- The King's Speech (Snatcher)
4. Christopher Nolan- Inception (Deserved)
5. David O. Russell- The Fighter (Deserved but should be Danny Boyle for 127 Hours, The Coen Brothers for True Grit and Ben Affleck for The Town)

Another strong line-up but the win should go to the man who made a teen flick look Oscar worthy, David Fincher.

Best Supporting Actor
1. Christian Bale- The Fighter (Winner)
2. Michael Douglas- Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps (Snatcher)
3. Andrew Garfield- The Social Network (Deserved but Justin Timberlake deserved it more than him)
4. Jeremy Renner- The Town (Deserved)
5. Geoffrey Rush- The King's Speech (Thank god, I thought for The Warrior's Way, Snatcher)

Bale should have this award and it should only go to Rush or Douglas. To make a little noise, I would like to add Justin Timberlake for The Social Network and Joseph Gordon-Levitt to the mix.

Best Supporting Actress
1. Amy Adams- The Fighter (Winner)
2. Helena Bonham Carter- The King's Speech (Snatcher)
3. Mila Kunis- Black Swan (Deserved)
4. Melissa Leo- The Fighter (Snatcher)
5. Jacki Weaver- Animal Kingdom (???)

I am quite clueless about the supporting actress category every year so I have no suggestions. But I have Marion Cotillard for Inception and Helen Mirren for Red in mind.

Best Animated Feature
1. Despicable Me (Deserved)
2. How To Train Your Dragon (Snatcher to others, Deserved to me)
3. The Illusionist (???)
4. Tangled (Deserved)
5. Toy Story 3 (Winner)

No complains but maybe Megamind?

Best Screenplay
1. 127 Hours (Snatcher)
2. Inception (Winner)
3. The Kids Are All Right (Deserved)
4. The King's Speech (Snatcher)
5. The Social Network (Snatcher)

These 5 movies seem like the 5 movies who will receive the 10 nominations for Best Picture and Screenplay. I have to give it to Inception because of the way it is cleverly written.

Let me know what you think about the nominations on the comment section. Until next time, Long Live Good Movies!

Inception Review (Part 2)

Looking at the trailer, there are a number of cool scenes.Pretty cool, right? Christopher Nolan has said that Inception does not need to be filmed in 3-D. Despite all the cool action and visual scenes, we are getting IMAX at most. Though this move may not go well with fans of 3-D, it shows that they are confident that the movie itself is good enough without 3-D to bring in cash which is why Batman 3 a.k.a. The Dark knight Rises is also going to be shot in 2-D and using the IMAX cameras during a few scenes. I hope this movie gets an Oscar nomination because based on the trailer, the director, actors, writers all work and try hard and the hard work is bound to pay off. Let's hope that people will turn this movie into a multimillion dollar film although it seems like an odd film to be released in the summer. But July is the month full of great finales to the summer. In 2007, Transformers. 2008, The Dark Knight, a Christopher Nolan produced, directed and written film. 2009, 500 Days Of Summer and Public Enemies. 2010, Inception. So, The Movie Preview Critic rates Inception

W- Worthy
Worthy of big screen viewing.

MS- Midnight Show
See it the minute it comes out.

DL- Drama Lover
You like dramas.

AL- Action Lover
You love action.

AF- Actor Factor
You like the actors.

DF- Director Factor
You love the directors

WF- Writer(s) Factor
You like the writer(s).

HFSTLA- Holy F***ing Sh** That Looks Awesome
You are sure that this movie will rock!

WON- Wants Oscar Nominations
This movie wants to earn Oscar nominations.

SOAGMF- Sign Of A Good Movie Future
These are the kind of movies we want.

So, now let's see Inception's Deserved Cash! It deserves RM 6.9 million. Now let's see Inception's Movie Wars! It beats Salt, Predators, Toy Story 3, Eclipse, Chloe, The Sorcerer's Apprentice, Knight And Day, Despicable Me, Shanghai, Street Dance and The Karate Kid. That means Inception is the BEST MOVIE IN CINEMAS!!! So until next time, consider yourselves advised, remember H-wood gives us more than we paid for and as always, Long Live Good Movies!

Inception Review (Part 1)

This is the most promising movie of 2010. You simply can't go wrong with Christopher Nolan. The director and writer of Memento, Insomnia, Batman Begins, The Prestige and The Dark Knight just simply takes our breath away and does amazing movies with the talent he has. He has joined a legion of directors who have taken movie-making to a new level. Inception is the inception of that step. So why is it that Inception can look so promising while current movies like Sex & The City 2, Eclipse and The Back-Up Plan all failed in their trailers? I say this many times before, which is effort. Directors and screen writers who we have never heard of before are taking on movies that are popular, famous and of dying genres. Christopher Nolan loves movie making so he does it with passion because he wants to tell a story and we all want to listen. Unfortunately, some prefer to see shirtless werewolves, weird vampires and an emo girl, 4 best friends who we rather see on the T.V. screen and Jennifer Lopez in a rom-com. Okay, so maybe I am harsh about those movies but it's because Inception is so much better when you compare it with these movies. I mean, why isn't anyone aware of the number of bad movies we have? All we do is keep taking money out of our wallets to watch these movies that we all know are gonna disappoint us. We need to know now that bad movies are not needed and we need to fight for our rights to get the good movies we want like Inception. There are simply no excuses to make a bad movie if you only put in a half effort work. So let's see what is Inception about. It's about a man who can enter people's minds and steal their ideas. Because of this, he is a fugitive. But he has to complete one last job and he will be able to be a normal person like everyone else. He has to plant an idea into a mind but someone seems to be watching them. Nolan was very secretive of this movie when he released the 30 seconds trailer. Just like Cloverfield, we wanted more. So he released a second trailer that had Leonardo Di Caprio explaining our world in the near future. There are some cool moments and then a little story here and there with different perceptions of the movie, trailer and story. The third trailer was released a few months later and that one really told the story and we all could understand the main story. Christopher didn't need to tell us the story straight away with narrations or words on the screen other than the tag line and credits. He let the characters and sequences to the talking and we could understand it perfectly clear. Like Wall-E. I don't remember Inglourious Basterds or Up In The Air talk when I watched Wall-E but just the movements of Wall-E and the background already told us where we are and what we're doing. It may not be as clear as talking but it's still clear. Imagine if one of those 5 movies above had very little dialogue. We are most likely going to get shirtless guys, laughing girls, dance moves, plain action choreography and fumbling-bumbling actions. Those are for the entertaining part but every movies need the basic root which is story and characters. If that fails, not even good acting can save it from failure. You can say "Great acting by Laurence Fishburne in Predators but the script wasn't as good as Predator. The actors here are well-known or basic solid actors who won't give bad performances. They have all either been nominated, won or involved in movies that received attention from the Golden Globes or the Oscars. Leonardo Di Caprio (nominated for Oscar), Ken Watanabe (nominated for Oscar), Marion Cotillard (won Oscar), Joseph Gordon-Levitt (nominated for Golden Globe), Cillian Murphy (involved in The Dark Knight), Ellen Page (nominated for Oscar), Michael Caine (won Oscar)and 2 other actors Tom Hardy and Tom Berenger. Other than the story, the actors are also a big spectacle to watch because who doesn't like a cast that features great actors. When the case is right, they can act well and the director doesn't need to give so many directions because there actors adapt well and can understand the vision of the director. No offense to the actors below but imagine if Eddie Murphy, any of the Jonas brothers, Paris Hilton, anyone from any horror remake, any Disney actor or actress with stone acting were cast in this movie. No matter whether there's a twist in the story, the actors won't be able to portray what the director wants unless Christopher Nolan keeps shooting the same scene for numerous times.

(To be continued...)

Iron Man 2 Review (Part 3)

There have been an awful lot of superhero movies coming out lately. But if we look at history, there are a mixture of good and bad superhero movies. The reason, well these movies are justmade for the money. So that's why it get green lighted because it brings easy profit. If anyproducer gets a chance to get easy profit without putting in effort, they jump at the opportunityand thus, the films above are made. But what makes me confused is why people will even wantto watch these movies when they already know that they are gonna get bad movies. It justdoesn't make any sense. But thank God that not all comic book stories are like that. Someproducers really want to make the fan boys happy and we have these kind of films. These latergroup of films make us really think, why couldn't the earlier group put in a little more effort. IfChristopher Nolan, Tim Burton, Bryan Singer, Sam Raimi and Richard Donner can please the fanboys. Why is it that the directors of the earlier group of movies can't. Get ready for an explosive, action packed and focuses on characters as well movie. To fight the MoviePocalypse, we need hope and this movie has answered our prayers. Let's hope that Columbia Pictures give everyone involved in Iron Man more space to perform in front or behind the camera. The Movie Preview Critic rates Iron Man 2

W
Worthy of big screen viewing.

MS
Midnight Show

AL
You love action, so you watch it.

AF
Actor Factor

CBAL
You like comic book adaptations.

SUPF
You want to watch it because you like superheros.

HFSTLA
You are sure that this movie will rock!

WON
Wants Oscar Nominations

MPTC
More Parts To Come

SOAGMF
Sign Of A Good Movie Future

Because of time problems, the end part of every review will be written in the book instead. Firstly, How To Train Your Dragon. There has been a lot of good buzz about this flick while I see that this movie looks cliched, it's strictly for kids but it has jokes and wonderful effects that's worth full price. That is all a prediction. I thought it was gonna be normal like Cloudy With A Chance OF Meatballs because both stories were so familiar that the only thing different were the time and society. If you read the review, you get the idea. So when someone says "This is as good as Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs, I get confused. If it is as good as people say it is, it's probably helping us getting good and better movies. So maybe it is better than what I thought it would be. So, it's RP for anyone who likes cartoons and "Toothless" and still M for me because I don't have the urge to watch it. It had a budget of $ 165 million and it's already earned $ 208 million and counting, so expect um... an Oscar nomination that I'm sure they won't win. But a nomination is already good enough. Next on, we go to The Green Zone. I am a big fan of Matt Damon action movies but I'm not a fan of his acting in those movies, it's not bad but he doesn't give us Saving Private Ryan, Good Will Hunting or Invictus. But when The Green Zone came out, I thought it was gonna be good because there's Paul Greengrass and Matt Damon working together again but it's gotten mixed reviews from critics and fans which surprises me because Matt doesn't do a lot of bad movies. This is a movie that will save us from the MoviePocalypse so it's still RP but it's only grossed $ 61 million from it's budget of $ 100 million. I'm disappointed that this movie earns only that much while um... I don't want to mention names but movies about lame vampire love, JUST about fighting robots and teen idols can earn more than the budget of The Green Zone. Yes, I'm not f***ing kidding. What do audiences want to see? Zac Efron is in The Green Zone, Robert Pattinson is A Serious Man. Is that it? The TRUTH?! Well, it has to be because it hurts. But I choose The Green Zone over How To Train Your Dragon, sorry Toothless, I'm not falling for that cuteness... And last but not least, The Lovely Bones. The Lovely Bones is an adaption from a best selling and critically acclaimed novel. If you read my review, you know the story and throughout Oscar period, I was doubting Stanley Tucci's performance in the movie. I'm sorry for my action so I like to make it up to you by saying that this is the best movie in cinemas right now before Iron Man 2 is released but by then, it will be out of cinemas because of the lack of support. It is a big boost for me if the MoviePocalypse is coming but I think that Peter Jackson is just warming up for The Hobbit, which he will get involved soon. Despite it's popularity with readers, it grossed $ 89 million and counting. Although they already earn a profit with a budget of $ 65 million. I am happy to say that The Lovely Bones beats The Green Zone but that doesn't mean I don't like The Green Zone anymore.
If The Lovely Bones is put up against Alice In Wonderland, I'm going with the former because it's more mature, darker and there's more effort here, sorry Tim, you FINALLY lose to the undefeated. So until next time, choose your movies wisely, remember H-wood gives us more than what we paid for, choose your movies wisely and as always, Long Live Good Movies!

What Will These Movies Do? 4/4 Part 1 (New Segment Online Only)

Hello there, this is a new segment that I'm typing online only. This week's movies are It's Complicated, Alice In Wonderland, How To Train Your Dragon, The Green Zone, The Lovely Bones, Clash Of The Titans and Daybreakers. I won't talk about the Coming Soon updates so Iron Man 2 and Date Night have to wait for their turn. First off, It's Complicated. I didn't really know about this movie until it was nominated for a few GoldenGlobes for Best Motion Picture- Comedy Or Musical, Best Performance By An Actress In A Leading Role- Comedy Or Musical and Best Screen... w-h-a-t...?! It was nominated for Best Screenplay? Really? There were no other choices? Then how come the Oscar nominees for Best Original Screenplay were The Hurt Locker, Inglourious Basterds, The Messenger, Up and A Serious Man and no It's Complicated, how ironic... But after all, the Oscars and Golden Globes can't agree on anything... Anyway, with a budget of $ 85 million for I-don't-know-what-they-use-it-for-unless-they-spent-$60 million ($ 20 million each)- on-the-three-main-actors-and-another-$ 25 million-for-other-actors-and-other-crew-members. Firstly, I'm not an accountant so if you say you're gonna use $ 85 million to make a romantic comedy. First off, you gotta be f***ing out of your mind. Secondly, no one uses that much money to make a romantic movie, comedy or drama, just ask Twi..., um... can't think of an example right now but um... there definitely is... Anyway, it earned $ 215 million worldwide. I'm shocked here because a movie that makes that much is usually a kid's movie. Think about it, it earned close to Alvin & The Chipmunks. How did this movie earn that much...? Did you watch it? Did you like it? Why did you watch it? Someone forced you to watch? Or were you curious to see how this movie end up...? Leave your thoughts in the comment section. Next up,Alice In Wonderland. This movie had received a lot of buzz for good and bad reasons. On the plus side, the performances are good, the visuals are stunning and the story is beautifully crafted. On the down side though, it's hard to imagine that a movie by Tim Burton that has Johnny Depp, Mia Wasikowska, Helena Bonham Carter, Michael Sheen, Anne Hathaway, Crispin Glover, Christopher Lee, Matt Lucas, Alan Rickman and Stephen Fry will be mediocre. It seems like a repeat of Planet Of The Apes or Mars Attacks! After all, it's still a good effort and M is not enough. It still has it's RP tittle. Some of the comments even said that Tim Burton played it safe... Really? Doesn't sound like him... If his movies were bad, you could still see the effort he put in but all the comments were not good, snooze fest, boring. Well, Tim, I'm on your side. Next, it has grossed $ 673 million worldwide. Wow! I'm pretty impressed, which shows that 3-D movies still can have heart and soul. It's budget was $ 200 million but that's how much you need to spend if you want good effects. So, it's worth it.
Comparing both movies above, Alice In Wonderland gets my vote as a better movie because he really did try hard. It's Complicated tried hard too but Tim put in more. But I did enjoy Something's Gotta Give. f there is time, there will be another part talking about How To Train Your Dragon and The Green Zone. So until next time,k remember H-wood gives us more than what we paid for, choose your movies wisely and as always, Long Live Good Movies!

Up Movie Review

While on my holiday to Spain, there were a lot of movies to catch and since I just do the before and not the after, I decided to take a break and use a few hours of my life to watch a movie. So just to be safe, I decided to start with 500 Days Of Summer. Then, I watched Up. After watching Up, I just have this feeling I don't get from a lot of movies. In case all of you don't know about this Pixar juggernaut, I'm gonna explain the story. An old man, Carl Fredrickson has always been grumpy and sad and could never reach his dream of going to South America. So 1 day, he ties many Helium filled balloons to his roof and his house lifts off to South America but he accidentally brings along a little scout-like boy, Russell, who he tried to get rid of at the start of the movie. The story is a bit illogical but it's animation so it's okay for the story to be like that. Pixar is very good at not being childish with their animated films. For example, in Toy Story, I am sure that some kids won't understand what Woody and Buzz talk about sometimes. In Up, Russell's father has an affair. I'm not sure whether parents would want their kids wanting to know about affairs. Next, the character development. Every character were likable, even the villain until a certain extent. You really can relate to them and you understand them. Now, choose any of these 3 movies,

1. Transformers 2: Revenge Of The Fallen
2. 2012
3.G.I. JOE: The Rise Of CobraIt's all about the C.G.I., no character development whatsoever. For example, when Optimus Prime died in the movie like in a Transformers animated movie before, we didn't feel sad, even when a sad score was being played because we didn't know him that well. When someone you don't know dies, you don't really care, right? Same thing here, Transformers 2 lacked emotion. Next, 2012. There is no conflict whatsoever so no emotions even while they're running away. The only interesting thing is the "Holy Sh**" effects, no heart and soul of making a good movie. G.I. JOE has the worst group of actors because some are too successful (Joseph Gordon-Levitt & Dennis Quaid), some are not supposed to be in the movie (Marlon Wayans, Rachel Nichols & Brendan Fraser), some are unknowns (Christopher Ecclestone & Lee Byung-hun), some acted well (Arnold Vosloo & Ray Park) and some are under-achievers (Channing Tatum & Sienna Miller). The cast is wild so the characters are wild too since Arnold, Ray, Lee and Joseph only reached above my acting satisfaction. But I know people who watched Up and just said that it was an okay movie. I have to strongly disagree with them because this movie is one of a few movies that can help save our movie future, which was why I was upset when Up or Fantastic Mr. Fox didn't get a nomination for the Golden Globes Best Motion Picture- Musical or Comedy category. Before watching, it was W RP. Now, after watching, it is W MS! So until next time, consider yourselves advised, remember H-wood gives us more than what we paid for, choose your movies wisely and as always, Long Live Good Movies!

Golden Globes Nominations Reaction (Part 2)

Best Animated Feature

1. Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs (Unlikely) (Should have been: Monsters v.s. Coraline (Deserve-r)
3. The Fantastic Mr. Fox (Snatcher)
4. The Princess And The Frog (Deserve-r)
5. Up (Winner)

Up should win this comfortably but expect The Fantastic Mr. Fox to throw a surprise win if Up loses. Monsters v.s. Aliens should have gotten a nod among the other not nominated films, Ponyo, Disney's A Christmas Carol and 9.

Best Supporting Actor

1. Matt Damon for Invictus (Winner)
2. Woody Harrelson for The Messenger (Deserve-r)
3. Christopher Plummer for The Last Station (Deserve-r)
4. Stanley Tucci for The Lovely Bones (Unlikely) (Should have been: George Clooney or any other actor for The Men Who Stare At Goats)
5. Christoph Waltz for Inglorious Basterds (Snatcher)

Matt should win this too but Christoph may pull off a win for his performance as a Nazi commander. Stanley should be replaced by any actor from The Men Who Stare At Goats. My personal favorite is Jackie Earle Haley for Watchmen.

Best Director

1. James Cameron for Avatar (Snatcher)
2. Kathryn Bigelow for The Hurt Locker (Unlikely) (Should have been: Marc Webb for 500 Days Of Summer or Guy Ritchie for Sherlock Holmes)
3. Quentin Tarantino for Inglorious Basterds (Snatcher)
4. Clint Eastwood for Invictus (Winner)
5. Jason Reitman for Up In The Air (Snatcher)

Clint Eastwood should win this as a consolation because Invictus was left out in the Best Movie category. But James, Quentin and Jason could all pull a trick up their sleeves and win. Marc or Guy should have gotten a nod.

Best Supporting Actress

1. Penelope Cruz for Nine (Unlikely) (Should have been: Diane Kruger for Inglorious Basterds)
2. Vera Farmiga for Up In The Air (Winner)
3. Anna Kendrick for Up In The Air (Snatcher)
4. Mo'Nique for Precious: Based on the Novel PUSH by Sapphire (Deserve-r)
5. Julianne Moore for A Single Man (Snatcher)

One of the actresses of Up In The Air should win but Julianne shouldn't be counted out. Penelope shouldn't get a nomination and should have been replaced by Diane.

Last but not least, Best Screenplay

1. It's Complicated (Unlikely) (Up, Avatar or Invictus)
2. The Hurt Locker (Deserve-r)
3. Inglorious Basterds (Snatcher)
4. Up In The Air (Winner)
5. District 9 (Deserve-r)

Up In The Air should also win this comfortably unless the critics favor Quentin's witty jokes in Inglorious Basterds. District 9 and The Hurt Locker, meanwhile just deserve their nods. It's Complicated should be replaced by Up, Avatar or Invictus.

So there you have it, who will win? What's your reaction, leave your thoughts in the comment section. So until next time, remember H-wood (or Story Corp.) gives us more than what we paid for, choose your movies wisely and as always, Long Live Good Movies!

Golden Globe Nominations Reaction (Part 1) No Pics

When i saw the nods, I realized that this year's nods were different from previous years. There are no stand outs unlike The Departed, No Country For Old Men and Slumdog Millionaire. And some shouldn't get nominated. So I have decided to review the nods and favorites and those that don't deserve. But before I do so, there are some ratings to rate the nominees.

Winner- My choice to win.
Snatcher- The one that will most probably snatch the win.
Deserve-r- It deserves the nod but won't win.
Unlikely- Shouldn't win or get nominated.

Now, let's start! Best Movie- Drama. The nominees are:

1. Avatar (Snatcher)
2. The Hurt Locker (Deserve-r)
3. Inglorious Basterds (Snatcher)
4. Precious: Based on the Novel PUSH by Sapphire (Unlikely) (Should have been: Invictus)
5. Up In The Air (Winner)

Up In The Air is really cool and it's time a movie like that win Best Drama. But if Up In The Air don't win, I pray or most likely it will go to Avatar or Inglorious Basterds. The Hurt Locker won't win but it deserves to be nominated. However, Precious: Based on the Novel PUSH by Sapphire isn't in the top 5 Best Dramas of the year. Invictus, State Of Play, Public Enemies or District 9 should have gotten a nod, especially Invictus. But there always have to be a miss.

Best Movie- Comedy or Musical

1. 500 Days Of Summer (Winner)
2. The Hangover (Unlikely) (Should have been: Zombieland)
3. It's Complicated (Unlikely) (Should have been: The Informant!)
4. Julie & Julia (Snatcher)
5. Nine (Unlikely) (Should have been: Up or Fantastic Mr. Fox)

This will be a close fight between 500 Days Of Summer and Julie & Julia because old critics would like Julie & Julia while the younger generation will go for 500 Days Of Summer. However, The Hangover, It's Complicated and Nine shouldn't get nominated. It's Complicated has a bad and complicated plot, Nine is kinda boring while if The Hangover got a nod, why didn't Tropic Thunder get a nod? So, to be fair, these 3 movies shouldn't get nominated. Plus, I thought 2009 is the year where all the animated films take over. So, where's Up? Up is only nominated in Best Animated Feature. Also missing are Fantastic Mr. Fox, Zombieland, The Informant!, Bruno and I Love You Man.

Best Actor- Drama

1. Jeff Bridges for Crazy Heart (Deserve-r)
2. George Clooney for Up In The Air (Snatcher)
3. Colin Firth for A Single Man (Deserve-r)
4. Morgan Freeman for Invictus (Winner)
5. Tobey Maguire for Brothers (Deserve-r)

Everyone in this category deserved the nod they received but if you're looking for the winner, look to Morgan Freeman who played Nelson Mandela. But don't be shocked if George Clooney pulls off a win because he did a good job himself. Tobey, Jeff and Colin wouldn't be replaced if I chose the nods although I did not watch Crazy Heart and A Single Man.

Best Actress- Drama

1. Emily Blunt for The Young Victoria (Winner)
2. Sandra Bullock for The Blind Side (Snatcher)
3. Helen Mirren for The Last Station (Snatcher)
4. Carey Mulligan for An Education (Deserve-r)
5. Gabourey Sidibe for Precious: Based on the Novel PUSH by Sapphire (Unlikely) (Melanie Laurent for Inglorious Basterds)

Emily should end up as winner but Sandra Bullock is the most likely to pull off a surprise win. Helen is also famous for taking favorite's awards. Carey is the dark horse while Melanie Laurent should have gotten a nod for Inglorious Basterds.

Best Actor- Comedy or Musical

1. Matt Damon for The Informant! (Winner)
2. Daniel-Day Lewis for Nine (Deserve-r)
3. Robert Downey Jr. for Sherlock Holmes (Snatcher)
4. Joseph Gordon-Levitt for 500 Days Of Summer (Snatcher)
5. Michael Stuhlberg for A Serious Man (Deserve-r)

Another satisfying category. Matt should win this because he has been nominated for an acting award before and this time he has the chance to win it. Robert's nomination gave me the same reaction when Johny Depp got a nod for Captain Jack Sparrow so I wish him the best to steal it away while when no one is looking, Joseph might pop as the surprise winner because of his performance in 500 Days Of Summer. I have nothing much to say about Daniel-Day and Michael. If I want to complain, I would like Woody Harrelson for Zombieland or Sacha Baron Cohen for Bruno.

Best Actress- Comedy or Musical

1. Sandra Bullock for The Proposal (Unlikely) (Should have been: Zooey Deschanel for 500 Days Of Summer)
2. Marion Cotillard for Nine (Deserve-r)
3. Julia Roberts for Duplicity (Winner)
4. Meryl Streep for It's Complicated (Unlikely) (Should have been: Emma Stone for Zombieland)
5. Meryl Streep for Julie & Julia (Snatcher)

Julia and Meryl will take this category because the rest aren't serious contenders. Of the other 3, I would only keep Marion Cotillard. Zooey Deschanel and Emma Stone for 500 Days Of Summer and Zombieland respectively should have gotten nominations.

Still to go:
1. Best Animated Feature
2. Best Supporting Actor
3. Best Director
4. Best Supporting Actress
5. Best Screenplay

(... to be continued)

The MoviePocalypse Warning

This is a no picture post and here's what this post is all about. The MoviePocalypse is coming soon if we don't continue to fight for good movies. In H-wood, when they run out of ideas, they do remakes, reboots, adaptations or sequel. But where is the real heart of movie-making now? 2012 and New Moon each cashed in a lot in the box office that my mouth just hung open and I ask myself, why? How did those 2 bad movies earned so much money. Was it the appeal? Was it because there were no other movies to watch? There is no way a film like these two can beat The Dark Knight's record. I actually hoped and wished that The Dark Knight would hold onto the record but it was beaten by Harry Potter & The Half-Blood Prince, 2012 and New Moon. Just to be clear, I want you all to know that if you are a fan of 2012, by all means, defend your movie because there are very little good I can see from both movies. If in the future, the movie world is still as bad as now, we can say goodbye to good movies and accept stupid movies that are only trying to cash in on money. Since New Moon is the holder for most midnight shows, I wish to see James Cameron's Avatar beat the currnet $ 22 million because it deserves to. If you want more heartless, more I-want-your-money-more-than-your-caring-for-this-f***ing-movie, ignore this warning but if the future is what it turns out to be, it's you to blame because you were warned but you still support films like this. Before I finish this post, I want to let everyone know that this is REAL! It's not fake and it can happen if we don't act now. If you continue to pay RM 10 for a bad movie, you are bringing forward the MoviePocalypse. If you want any information, please reach me at excellentace17@hotmail.com. Thank you for your time to read this warning and stop the movie world from coming to an end. So until next time, conisder yourselves advised, remember H-wood gives us more than what we paid for, choose your movies wisely and as always, Long Live Good Movies!

Comment Follow Vote Support -TMPC

Avatar Review (Part 2)

Before I start this review, I would like to say something first to all those kids or Nickelodeon lovers. This has nothing to do with Avatar: The Last Airbender about the bald Airbender kid

who can control all 4 elements (Water, Earth, Wind and Fire) and has to defeat some fire-bender

who has a very bad-a** tattoo on his head and has to defeat him before the world is taken over by the Fire Nation. They are doing a movie on that, but that's next year, by M. Night

Shyamalan. And I don't know if it will end up like Dragonball: Evolution and Twilight. But I'll do

a review on that... next year. Now, let's focus on this movie, Avatar. It isn't really being marketed well to kids, which explains all kids confused with Avatar: The Last Airbender and Avatar. I am looking forward to Avatar. It is about an ex-Marine who is handicapped. However, he is able to go on another mission because some scientists found a planet that contains resources and blue creatures. So, they plan to transport his mind into a blue creature's head, go to the planet and steal the resources but he ends up falling in love and bonding with the blue creatures. Now, he is torn between the 2 sides. The first thing I want to say about this is that it's from the director of Titanic, James Cameron. He hasn't done any movies for the past 12 years because he spent a lot of time on this. By looking at the trailer,

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zBmuhV0vmLQ

you know you are in for a treat. It's very obvious that James is trying to make another Titanic. I

don't know if anyone noticed but James wants his movies to be involved with the Oscars. But he deserves it, it's not like a terrible director is trying to copy a bigger film. Even the marketing for Avatar is so cool. But here's what I wish for when this movie is released, I wish that both critics

and fans don't compare this movie with bigger movies because it's obvious it's gonna fall. Like Poseidon, except this has much more potential than Poseidon. So why shouldn't this movie be compared with Titanic? Because it's never gonna reach expectations when the expectations are too high! In 2008, a movie called Hancock starring Will Smith and Charlize Theron wasn't liked by critics but it wasn't because it was bed, it was because it didn't reach expectations. This movie stars Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana. As we all know, both aren't big stars but they each have been involved in big projects. Sam was Marcus Wright in Terminator: Salvation and a man running for his life in Rogue. Zoe meanwhile, starred in more big films than Sam. She was involved in Star Trek, Vantage Point, Guess Who, The Terminal and Pirates Of The Caribbean:The Curse Of The Black Pearl. So they have been in blockbuster films but when they are finally in the lead and not, Christian Bale, Chris Pine, Johny Depp, Zachary Quinto, Tom Hanks, DennisQuaid, the late Bernie Mac and Matthew Fox, will it work? Chances are 'yes' because they are under James's direction and experience they get from the professionals they worked with. I forgot to mention this but James is doing 3 things, directing, producing and writing. It's not that it's a bad thing but I think that he is really pushing himself, something like what Heath Ledger did when he played Joker. Now, I'm not saying James is gonna die, in fact I wish he lives for a long time because of his awesome movie style, I'm just saying he needs to cool down. The maximum budget reading for this is $ 300 million. Wow! That's a lot of money! But this movie is going to bring in a large audience so that's why they are willing to spend so much money on this, something like what 2012 did. The running minutes is 165 minutes. I don't know about you but if I'm going to sit down for 2 hours and 35 minutes, it better be a classic like The Dark Knight orthere goes 2-3 hours of my life. It has a story although cliche but still acceptable but watch this after you've watched State Of Play, Brothers' Bloom and Drag Me To Hell.

Worth a watch: The Brothers' Bloom, Drag Me To Hell and Terminator: Salvation
Watch it before it leaves theaters soon: Angels & Demons, Night At The Museum 2: Battle Of The Smithsonian and Monsters v.s. I'm not blaming them, instead I'm supporting them. So what's with this flick? Transformers was a real hit in 2007, the year of the summer flops. Why is Transformers so awesome? There's no answer, it's natural. It's like asking "Why do living things drink water?" or "Why do we only make paper out of trees?" It's no wonder why this movie is much anticipated. So I wanted to make myself like this film and it was easily liked which explains why so many boys would want to watch it. Michael Bay

is directing this, the boys will just go to see Optimus Prime kick some *ss but movie critics will go because they are gonna get a Michael Bay movie. He just directed Friday The 13th

and it was a hit. Michael has done many good films like...

Bad Boys

The Island

and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

So there's definitely talent and skills but can he work his magic again because if this movie fails, not only will the fans be outraged but the producers will suffer a big loss. It's a gamble to make a movie with $200 million. This is similar to Night At The Museum

It cost $110 million to make and it grossed $571 million worldwide. That's a huge number which means it's profit was $461 million. Will it be the same fairytale for Transformers 2? Let's see the synopsis for this film. Sam Witwicky discovers something about the origins of the Transformers and their history on Earth after having visions of a remaining piece of the Allspark, which I thought was destroyed in the first film. The Decepticons need to capture him for information and kill him because of what he did to Megatron. Seriously, they need to give the robots more emotion than just awesome visual and special effects. Remember, just because it has awesome visuals and special effects, doesn't it will turn out well and an example is 10, 000 B.C. Now we thought this movie would be great but look at the outcome, it was a movie just full of special and visual effects but not even that can save the movie. So let's hope Transformers 2 isn't like that. The reason why Transformers 2 will do better is because it has a good plot and has interesting characters unlike other movies with boring characters and plots. A real, real perfect example was last year's Twilight which has a sequel this year, New Moon. I'll do a review on New Moon later this year. This movie pissed me off when it beat Slumdog Millionaire and Iron Man at the MTV movie awards. But let's go back to Transformers 2 and what Twilight problem that Transformers 2 might be comitting. There are just so many teen romance stories that it's kinda boring whether you add a supernatural twist or not. You can add a werewolf or a monster into a teen romance story and it still will be boring. Producers need to do something new but not only with this genre. Something that we the audience actually want to watch not a movie that you sit down, shut up for 2 hours, get up and leave with no emotion. So if Transformers 2 is like that, be careful because our movie future looks bad. So this features a string of Transformers. The Autobots include Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Ironhide, Ratchet, Jetfire, Arcee, Skids, Sideswipe, Jolt and Wheelie while the Decepticons have a revived Megatron, Starscream, Soundwave, Grindor, Scorponok, Demolisher, Sideways, Ejector and Scalpel. There are 19 Transformers while the humans have been cut down. In the last movie, it was an all-star cast but too many characters. This time, it seems more balanced. This time, the characters are Sam Witwicky, his parents, his girlfriend, the bad *ss special agent, the 2 military soldiers and the new characters are his room mate, a special agent from the U.K. and a college professor. The actors are also not bad, we have Shia Lebeouf, Megan Fox, John Turturo, Peter Cullen, Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson, Hugo Weaving, Matthew Marsden and The Office's Rainn Wilson. So is there anything wrong with this movie? Will it fail us even though it seems that everything is o.k.? The movie received a lot of buzz, calling it the best superhero movie ever, well that was before The Dark Knight. 20th Century Fox took this chance to make a sequel. No suprise there because it made a bucket load of cash. It's worldwide total was $ 296.3 million. With the DVD sales, it received a total of $346.3 million. So they made X-Men 2. This time, they had added more mutants. Pyro, who looks nothing like the Pyro in the comic book. See for yourself...

And in this film, he was an X-Men, not part of Magneto's gang until the end and in X-Men 3: The Last Stand. The other character who is also an X-Men is Nightcrawler. He looks really freaky and I don't know why wasn't he in the first film. It would have better to introduce him with the other mutants since he is one of my favorite mutants in X-Men. Would this movie measure up to the juggernaut (Not the mutant) sucess of X-Men? The producers were asking that or else the fans will definetely f***ing treat X-Men 2 like a piece of sh**. So the sequel was called X2 and X-Men 2: X-Men United. That was just an awesome title name so I checked it to see if it can match the sucess. The results were shocking... There's another horror movie coming out. But this movie is a remake of a Korean movie that almost made me wee my pants. Can someone tell me why is this movie being made. So... Is it going to be better than the original? Or is it another reason why Hollywood horror movie filmmakers want quick cash? Let's see if this flick is worthy of our time, energy and money. First off, let's look at the preview, shall we?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pJ-ptYjksxU

The preview as you know doesn't scare you.Let's add a warning sign here.

Warning Sign #66. You weren't scared and it's suppose to be a horror movie.

It's important that you are scared before entering the theater. I checked for the cast of the movie and I found no A-List actors. This brings up

Warning sign #4. All the actors are unknown.

Why is this a warning sign? Well, because there won't be A-List performances. It's a remake, so it brings up

Warning sign #5. Obvious it is going to be a sh** movie.

It's gonna be a really bad film because it's a remake and they're showing it.

Warning sign #6. Same old scares.

We've seen these scares before. As I said in the preview, not scared because it's the same old f***ing scares.

Warning sign #11. The movie's marketing is f***ed up.

What's so scary about the poster. We don't even see a face. Look at the poster again, what's the drawing point? I see none.

Warning sign #13. Make you ask "What the f*** is going on?"

What the f*** is going on? Really? Who will want this movie released except the big producers of this movie who prefer money than originality.

Warning sign # 37. Doesn't mention it's a remake, pretends to be original.

How come they don't market it as a remake. Maybe that will lose the crowd. Knowing the truth that the movie isn't original.

So, it still questions me after watching the trailer. Is it gonna be good? I definitely would like to give this a thumbs down. From the preview, you can tell that it wont be as good as a few horror remakes.

Friday The 13thThe Blob

Texas Chainsaw Massacre

On the bright side, it won't be that bad as the other remakes. So now its time to rate the movie. The Movie Preview Critic rates The Uninvited

UW

Unworthy use of time, money and energy

DW

Download it on the computer and after watching, delete it and forget it

KC

It's a quick cash movie

UR

We don't need it. We've seen it before. What can this film do that the other film can't do?

NTD

It will be the same as the original

SOS

It is the same thing that is being repeated

NB

It has no balls

BSVOL&O

It's like Law & Order but it's a horror (or is it?) movie

SBIG

Is good to see how bad this movie will go. Whether it will be worst than My Bloody Valentine.

NAGFDM

Don't take your date to see this movie. He/She will hate your movie taste.

Now let's see The Uninvited's Rank In Cinema. It's ranked unlucky No. 13. So there you have it, The Uninvited's Rank In Cinema. Now, let's Watch This Instead! It's better if we watch the original Korean version. Next, let's see The Uninvited's Contribution To Cinema. It's a negative one.

1. Another example of a quick cash movie.

2. Originality lost

3. Well, this is just the sign of the Moviepocalypse. What is the Moviepocalypse? Well, it means that the movie world is ending. This is a good time for The Comedian (Watchmen) to say "God Help Us All!". We had 3 blows this week. The first blow is Hannah Montana The Movie. Why would someone over the age of maybe 17 watch this movie. It earned $32.3 million. What the f***?! Really? How did it earn that much? Because of this, expect a sequel to this kiddish comedy. Not even a 14 year old boy is going to watch this, are you? Right now, it's not in Malaysia. But when it hits Malaysia, let's ignore it. Can you guess the 2nd blow? Fast & Furious 4 made RM4.1 million in Malaysia. That's a lot for a Download Worthy movie. Is it that good? It dropped from $72 million last week to $27.2 million this week. But it's total gross now is $116. 5 million. WHAT THE F***?! Let's ignore this too since it's making way too much money like Hannah Montana The Movie. The 3rd and final blow of the week is that a man by the name of Nicholas Cage is in Astro Boy, yes the manga about a robotic boy who was created by a professor to replace the professor's son who died in a car crash. If Nicholas Cage is in the movie, maybe he will be in Dragonball 2. He keeps saying "Yes!" to every single f***ing project but he doesn't check if the movie is good enough for him. Let's just hope the movie world will recover from these 3 blows. So until next time, choose your movies wisely and as always LONG LIVE GOOD MOVIES!

P.S.
